Cowboys To Hold Andre Gurode Out; Cite “Business Decision”

The Dallas Cowboys are holding veteran center Andre Gurode out of tonight's preseason game with the Minnesota Vikings, Vice-President Stephen Jones telling the team's official website that it was a "business decision".

“He got pushed,” Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said of Gurode, the longest-tenured member of the team. The 33-year-old Gurode is due $5.5 million in base salary and the club likely does not want to expose him to injury. Gurode opened up training camp with a minor knee injury, but is healthy right now.

A five-time Pro Bowler, Gurode was in a training camp competition for his starting job with Phil Costa, a second-year free agent who has apparently won that battle. Costa is expected to miss 2-to-4 weeks with a sprained PCL

We like him a lot,” Garrett said of Costa according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “He’s done a very good job, a very good job for us since he’s been here. He made a very strong impression on us right at the outset last year as a free agent. We call him a little bit of a bulldog. He’ll fight every down from the snap to the whistle and sometimes afterward. When you have guys on your football team like that, that’s a real good thing.”

Undrafted rookie Kevin Kowalski is expected to start at center tonight.
