Patriots Granted Permission To Speak With Josh McDaniels, According To Report

The St. Louis Rams fired head coach Steve Spagnuolo and every member of the coaching staff except one -- Josh McDaniels. The Rams offensive coordinator may not be in St. Louis much longer as the New England Patriots have requested -- and been granted -- permission to speak with McDaniels.

The two sides are expected to speak this weekend, according to NFL Network.

The Patriots recently offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien to the head coaching job at Penn State. McDaniels was the offensive coordinator in New England before leaving to take the head coaching job in Denver before the 2009 season.

This would be a nice transition for the Patriots to make. You lose one coach yet you gain one who already has familiarity with the system. It would make the transition a little less painful.

The Kansas City Chiefs are another team reportedly connected to McDaniels. Reports indicate they could have an interest in bringing him on as the offensive coordinator
