Jake Locker still the starter in Tennessee

Despite the performance of backup quarterback Matt Hasselbeck, including Sunday’s win over the Buffalo Bills, Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Munchak will start Jake Locker at quarterback when he is healthy enough to play.

Tennessee Titans quarterback Jake Locker will still be the starter for the team when he is healthy enough to play, regardless of backup Matt Hasselbeck's performance. Hasselbeck is 2-1 as a starter in place of Locker, including Sunday's 35-34 victory over the Buffalo Bills. But when interviewed by The Tennessean's Jim Wyatt, head coach Mike Munchak immediately said that Locker will be back when healthy:

Munchak said Hasselbeck’s record and his performance against the Bills would not factor into the decision. It will be based on Locker’s health, he said.

“No matter what happened today,” Munchak said, “nothing was going to change on Jake’s situation.”

Hasselbeck completed 22 of 33 passes for 205 yards and one touchdown, a 15-yard pass to wide receiver Nate Washington with 1:03 left in the fourth quarter. The Titans were helped by running back Chris Johnson, who carried the ball 18 times for 195 yards and two touchdowns, including an 83-yard touchdown run in the first quarter.

Locker could be back at quarterback next week for the Titans' game against the Indianapolis Colts at LP Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET and the game will be televised on CBS.
