Bills vs. Texans, Week 9: Stalled drives doom Buffalo in loss

Despite moving the ball effectively at times, the Buffalo Bills’ offense was not able to punch the ball in the end zone in their 21-9 loss to the Houston Texans.

The Buffalo Bills hung around for a majority of Sunday's Week 9 contest against the heavily favored Houston Texans, but simply could not come up with big plays when needed in a 21-9 loss.

Buffalo was able to move the ball at times against Houston's defense, with Ryan Fitzpatrick throwing for 239 yards and C.J. Spiller amassing 102 all-purpose yards. However, as Brian Galliford of SB Nation's Bills blog Buffalo Rumblings notes, the Bills' lack of ability to finish off drives proved to be their downfall:

The Bills’ inability to finish drives with touchdowns undid a strong (for them) effort from an embattled Bills defense. Unlike a Week 7 loss to Tennessee, when the defense was the main culprit for a galling loss, Buffalo got enough from the unit to win the game had the offense played better.

Buffalo’s defensive effort was still not all that great, as they gave up 374 total yards. However, considering the Bills entered the game giving up 424.1 yards and 32.4 points per game, this was an improvement. This is especially true given the fact that Houston came in as the No. 2 scoring offense in the NFL.

Still, Buffalo's offense was simply not good enough, and it can't afford a repeat performance in Week 10 when the Bills visit the high-powered New England Patriots.
