Buffalo Bills defensive end Mario Williams registered seven tackles in his first return to Houston since leaving as a free agent -- and he also managed to sack Texans quarterback Matt Schaub as well.
Mario Williams: ‘Felt great’ to get booed by Texans fans
Buffalo Bills defensive end Mario Williams said it “felt great” to be booed by Texans fans on Sunday, in Williams’ first return to Houston since leaving as a free agent.
Needless to say, Texans fans didn’t react too well to Williams celebrating his sack -- and a chorus of boos rained down on Williams. Williams, though, was happy to be booed, and said it “felt great.”
“It was great,” Williams said of the boos. “The biggest thing for me is if you go out and make a play and get booed, I know I’m in your heart. That’s the most important thing.
“If it’d been quiet, then I would’ve felt something different. I know you’re thinking about me.”
Williams spent six seasons with the Houston Texans, before leaving as a free agent this past offseason to sign with the Bills. Buffalo gave Williams a six-year deal, worth up to $100 million, with $50 million in guaranteed money. Houston made Williams the No. 1 overall pick of the 2006 NFL Draft, selecting him ahead of USC Trojans running back Reggie Bush, in a controversial move at the time.
Williams has just 23 tackles and four and a half sacks so far in 2012, but did play through a torn ligament in his left wrist through Buffalo’s first seven games.
