Reggie Wayne injury: Colts WR scheduled for MRI

Reggie Wayne will undergo an MRI to determine the severity of the knee injury he suffered Sunday. He has played in 189 straight games.

Reggie Wayne is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Monday after suffering a knee injury during Sunday night's game between the Indianapolis Colts and the Denver Broncos, according to ESPN. Wayne sprained his knee while planting and turning back for a slightly underthrown, but otherwise routine pass from quarterback Andrew Luck. Wayne walked off the field with assistance and did not return to the game.

There is still no word yet on the severity of Wayne's injury. No doubt the results of Monday's MRI should give a clearer picture of how much time the wideout will miss, if any. If Wayne sits, the Colts will turn to Darrius Heyward-Bey and T.Y. Hilton to carry the passing game in the wide receiver corps.

Colts blog Stampede Blue is bracing for bad news:

Reggie Wayne rarely allows injuries to slow him down. Instead of hoping up and off the field, Wayne stayed down. Trainers and teammates rushed over, and whenever you see that happen to a guy like Wayne, it suggests the worst.

Wayne will have the benefit of a bye week next week, so he could return in Week 9 to keep alive his streak of 189 straight games played. On the season, he has 38 receptions for 503 yards and two touchdowns. He had five receptions for 50 yards before leaving Sunday’s game.
