Brandon Weeden will start for Browns Sunday

Once again, injuries have forced Weeden back under center for Cleveland.

Every time the Cleveland Browns try to bench Brandon Weeden, it seems the universe steps in to put him back under center. With Jason Campbell sidelined due to a concussion, Browns coach Rob Chudzinski announced Wednesday that Weeden will earn his third stint as the starting quarterback Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars, according to Nate Ulrich.

Weeden has lost four games as a starter in 2013 and has been benched twice. After beginning the season as the starter, he was removed in favor of third-stringer Brian Hoyer in Week 3. Hoyer led the team to its first two wins of the season and became an instant hero in Cleveland, but was lost for the season in Week 5, forcing Weeden back onto the field. After another disappointing stretch, the team turned to Campbell, who debuted with a strong performance in a close loss to the undefeated Kansas City Chiefs in Week 8.

Campbell left last Sunday’s loss to Pittsburgh with a concussion and once again the team will be forced to return to Weeden, who has completed just 51.5 percent of his passes and holds a QBR of 23.9 this season.

With Weeden as the only healthy passing option on the roster, the Browns signed Alex Tanney earlier this week. Tanney, best known for his trick-shot videos, will serve as the backup quarterback this weekend.
