The Arizona Cardinals are "strong favorites" to sign linebacker Larry Foote this offseason, according to CSB Sports' Jason La Canfora. La Canfora doesn't offer up much beyond that statement, but Foote would seem to make sense in Arizona.
NFL free agency rumors: Cardinals are ‘strong favorites’ to sign Larry Foote
The Arizona Cardinals are “strong favorites” to sign Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Larry Foote once free agency begins, according to one report.
Foote is a dependable veteran, and the Cardinals need some help at the position. Foote would likely be able to come in and be the starter right away. He played in all 16 games for the Steelers last year, and had 113 tackles with four sacks, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and two passes defensed.
Those are solid numbers, especially for a player who is 32 years old and has been in the league since 2002. Foote hasn’t seemed to have slowed down much, and has only missed a handful of games in his career. In fact, his four sacks and tackle numbers were career highs, or very close to them.
That said, Foote has made it clear he wants to return to Pittsburgh, and given the injury to Sean Spence, Foote might be valuable for the Steelers. Foote has spent 10 of his 11 seasons with the Steelers, the lone exception being a stint with the Detroit Lions in 2009. Still, without a contract extension on the table, Foote will hit free agency at 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday.
