Sean Smith agrees to terms with Chiefs, according to report

After four seasons with the Dolphins, Sean Smith agreed to terms with the Kansas City Chiefs, giving Andy Reid a formidable defensive backfield.

Free agent defensive back Sean Smith has agreed to terms on a three-year contract with the Kansas City Chiefs, according to a report by Smith's agent, David Canter.

Smith had spent the last four years with the Miami Dolphins after being drafted by the team in the second round of the 2009 NFL Draft out of Utah. Smith has only missed one game in his four-year career and has 40 passes defended to show for it. He had two interceptions to go with 12 passes defended last season and has five career interceptions.

Known as a physical cornerback, Smith has the ability to match up in man-to-man coverage on the outside. While he didn’t finish the season on a strong note, early in 2012 Smith was playing some of the best football of his entire career.

Smith will start opposite Brandon Flowers in Kansas City, and joins a defensive backfield that features Eric Berry and likely Dunta Robinson at safety.
