With just about two days down, the 2013 NFL free agency period has shown no signs of slowing down. While many top players signed on the first day or even in the first hour or so, there are still some big names out there. Among the top players to sign thus far are Mike Wallace and Dannell Ellerbe (Miami Dolphins), Paul Kruger and Desmond Bryant (Cleveland Browns) and many others.
2013 NFL free agent list: Greg Jennings, Nnamdi Asomugha still waiting
Greg Jennings and Nnamdi Asomugha are two of the biggest names still available in free agency as of Thursday morning. There are plenty more, too.
Well, those are the players who signed on day one. Day two saw some more top names get signed away, like Wes Welker, who signed a two-year contract with the Denver Broncos, and Dashon Goldson, who signed a five-year contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Still, there's some good, solid names available. Among those names are cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha and wide receiver Greg Jennings.
Asomugha was released by the Eagles on Tuesday and is one of the top cornerbacks in the NFL. He seems to have lost a step since leaving the Oakland Raiders, but he remains a No. 1 guy who can cover No. 1 receivers. Outside of Asomugha, the cornerback market still remains strong, as Aqib Talib, Sean Smith, Brent Grimes and Derek Cox are among those still available.
Jennings was hoping to make top dollar this offseason, but there hasn't been much movement from him thus far. It appears the Minnesota Vikings aren't pursuing him at this point, so one has to wonder if another team could swoop in and land Jennings for cheap.
The offensive tackle market is also still particularly strong. Guys such as Andre Smith, Sebastian Vollmer and Eric Winston are still available. Vollmer might be the best offensive lineman still on the market and smart money is on him commanding top dollar. Jake Long was still visiting with the St. Louis Rams at the time of writing this.
Most of the big-name defensive ends have yet to sign. Cliff Avril went to the Seattle Seahawks on Wednesday, but guys such as John Abraham, Osi Umenyiora and Dwight Freeney remain without a team for 2013. An under-the-radar kind of guy in Connor Barwin could be a steal for a team looking for a pass rusher on the outside.
Quarterback: Ryan Fitzpatrick is the best available free agent quarterback, which is to say it's a thin market. Jason Campbell and Josh Johnson are still out there for anyone needing a backup.
Running back: The market for back picked up on Wednesday with Reggie Bush signing with the Lions, Rashard Mendenhall to the Cardinals and Shonn Greene to the Titans. Steven Jackson is flirting with the Packers, but is still available. Ahmad Bradshaw is still waiting for calls too.
Wide receivers: Beyond Jennings, things get thin. Julian Edelman is there for a team looking for a slot option. Randy Moss and Braylon Edwards can still produce in the right role. Recently released Darrius Heyward-Bey is a wild card for teams willing to take a chance.
Tight ends: The Dolphins and Dustin Keller were talking at last check. A healthy Fred Davis would make a solid option for teams, providing he can stay on the field. Yesterday's biggest names at tight end are out there too with Ben Watson, Dallas Clark and Kellen Winslow on the market.
Interior linemen: This market is pretty thin, but Brandon Moore, Lance Louis and Willie Colon are the kind of players that can turn up and provide a fill-in option for teams at a position where coaches always seem to need bodies. Dan Koppen and Brad Meester are on the wrong side of 30, but a team needing a center might be willing to give them a chance.
Defensive tackles: Richard Seymour isn't getting many nibbles, which could say more about his asking price. Ricky Jean-Francois spurned the Eagles, and will visit the Colts. Sione Pouha is out there for 3-4 teams needing a nose tackle.
Linebackers: Connor Barwin is drawing interest from teams looking to add a pass rusher. James Harrison is still out there too, but his contract demands might be out of line with his age. There's a fairly deep market of linebackers who don't specialize as pass rushers, including Daryl Smith, Nick Barnett, Dan Connor, Karlos Dansby and Rey Maualuga.
Safeties: Both starters from the Super Bowl champion Ravens can be had right now with Ed Reed and Bernard Pollard on the market. Kerry Rhodes, Louis Delmas, Quintin Mikell, Charles Woodson and Kenny Phillips are all still looking for homes too. Teams will be able to find a solid starter at a cut rate in this market.
There's plenty of players still without teams not on this last that are worth a mention. Kicker Phil Dawson, safeties Ed Reed and Bernard Pollard and defensive tackles Richard Seymour and Ricky Jean-Francois are just some more names.
