We’re now moving into the second week of free agency and there are still signings aplenty to talk about. More than that, there are still plenty of big-name free agents still available, as they continue to search for a home for next season.
NFL free agency news: Phil Dawson signs, Ed Reed gets contract offer
There’s plenty still going on in free agency around the league. Here’s the latest roundup of what’s been happening.

The biggest recent signing saw offensive tackle Jake Long go to the St. Louis Rams, which actually came late Monday night. As of now, some of the biggest names remaining include offensive lineman Sebastian Vollmer, cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha and defensive end/outside linebacker Elvis Dumervil.
But the rest of the guys still out there continue to make visits and shop their wares, and we’ll cover some of the recent happenings, which may or may not include actual signings.
Phil Dawson signs with 49ers
The 49ers parted ways with David Akers after one truly awesome season and another really poor season. Unfortunately, the poor season was last season, so they needed to replace him. They managed to land the top kicker on the market in Phil Dawson, who doesn't seem capable of aging.
Houston offers Ed Reed a contract
Ed Reed playing elsewhere in 2013 might just be a possibility. The Houston Texans offered Ed Reed a contract and it appears to be a fair offer, even if Reed wants significantly more money. It will be interesting to see where this goes.
Michael Huff drawing interest
The safety market is drying up, with Louis Delmas and Dashon Goldson agreeing to contracts, but the Baltimore Ravens are definitely in need of some help at the position with both Bernard Pollard and Ed Reed as free agents. Huff might be one of the few starting safeties remaining, and he's drawing interest from the Ravens, according to Aaron Wilson on Twitter.
Big names still looking
Nnamdi Asomugha is one big name still remaining, but the teams interested in him remain unclear for the most part. One team definitely interested in him is the San Francisco 49ers, as Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area confirmed. Possibly the top kick returner on the market, Ted Ginn Jr., visited the Carolina Panthers on Tuesday, as well.
Carr signs with Giants
David Carr can't seem to get over the New York Giants, as he's re-signed with the team to continue being Eli Manning's primary backup. There was some sentiment that he might be looking for playing time elsewhere but he definitely won't be competing for that starting job.
