NFL free agent list: Pass rushers John Abraham, Dwight Freeney keeping busy

There’s plenty of free agents still remaining, but it’s the pass rushers who are keeping busy with visits.

We’re over a week into the NFL’s free agency period, but there’s still some top names available. There’s not necessarily a lack of interest in each player, it just takes longer for some guys to find a home for the following season.

Many of the absolute top names are already signed away, like Cliff Avril, Greg Jennings and Mike Wallace. But there's starters and solid contributors alike still on the market and for the most part, they're keeping busy.

Possibly the biggest name remaining is cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha. He's been visiting teams lately, and both the San Francisco 49ers and New Orleans Saints are interested in his services. Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area confirmed that Asomugha is still a target for San Francisco on Tuesday, while a visit with the Saints went well, according to Larry Holder of NOLA.com.

Then there's Elvis Dumervil, who was recently released by the Denver Broncos after a deadline mix-up. Dumervil instantly becomes the top pass-rusher available, but there are still a lot of them out there and the top guy, Paul Kruger, didn't get a huge contract to begin with. Still, Aaron Wilson reported on Twitter that the Broncos would prefer to re-sign Dumervil in the end.

Dwight Freeney remains an option for the Broncos as well as Dumervil. But the Broncos aren't the only team interested in the aging pass rusher, as it was recently reported that the Ravens are interested, according to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports.

Completing the group of aging pass rushers is John Abraham, who has received some solid attention this offseason. He is also visiting the Denver Broncos, as reported by Adam Schefter on Twitter. Prior to that, he made a visit with the Miami Dolphins. Where he'll actually end up is up in the air, as it seems he has the same suitors as the other pass rushers out there.

Shane Lechler is a big name who is still out there in free agency. He's arguably the best punter in the league, but things have been mostly quiet on his end. That changed on Wednesday, as John McClain reported, via Twitter, that Lechler was set to visit the Texans. It's unlikely that the Oakland Raiders could pay him what he wants.

Sebastian Vollmer and Andre Smith remain two of the top remaining free agents, and they're both offensive tackles. Vollmer, despite his talent, hasn't received much attention and ESPN reports that a one-year deal with the New England Patriots is the likeliest course of action. There hasn't been much news regarding Smith at this point, either. In fact, there aren't any reported visits since Smith hit the open market.

Lastly, the free-agent market had another big addition on Wednesday, as Brian Urlacher confirmed that he will not be back with the Chicago Bears. Where his value is and where he'll end up is anybody's guess, but he should be an intriguing option, regardless.
