NFL free agent tracker: DeAngelo Hall, Redskins agree to 1-year contract

Despite cap constraints, the Washington Redskins were able to bring cornerback DeAngelo Hall back on a one-year contract.

DeAngelo Hall has agreed to a one-year contract to remain with the Washington Redskins in 2013, according to Grant Paulsen from 10.7 The Fan in Washington, D.C. The signing comes about three weeks after Hall was released by the team for salary cap reasons.

Hall was due to make $8 million in 2013 before his release, and given that the Redskins only have about $3.25 million in space, the report from Jason La Canfora that suggests Hall will make $2.25 million in 2013 seems accurate. It’s a significant paycut, but it’s been a soft market for cornerbacks despite some big names actually becoming available.

La Canfora's report also suggests that the Redskins are still interested in Antoine Winfield, who worked out with the team last week. Winfield would cost a lot more than the cap room the Redskins presently have, but there is still plenty of time for the team to get creative with its cap.

Hall primarily moves inside to cover slot receivers when there are three-receiver sets, but he is one of the two starting cornerbacks in Washington. He’s had a long career of pulling down big interceptions, but has often under-performed when it comes to his contract numbers, having been released multiple times in the NFL. His number for 2013 seems plenty reasonable, however, and this should be a beneficial signing for the Redskins.
