Seattle Seahawks reportedly interested in Vince Young

The Seattle Seahawks are reportedly interested in the services of free agent quarterback Vince Young to be the backup behind Russell Wilson.

The Seattle Seahawks are reportedly interested in bringing in veteran quarterback Vince Young, according to Chris Mortensen of ESPN. Young would be a backup option behind second-year signal caller Russell Wilson, who led the Seahawks to an 11-5 record and a road playoff victory this past season.

Seattle is looking for a backup after trading Matt Flynn to the Oakland Raiders in exchange for a couple draft picks. Flynn was set to be the starter in 2012 but Wilson surged and took the job. As Flynn was being paid like a starter, given his three-year, $19.5 million contract, the Seahawks needed to trade him this offseason.

Young is trying to make a career comeback after a year out of the league. He was released by the Buffalo Bills prior to Week 1 of the 2012 season, but recently worked out at the Texas Longhorns Pro Day to try and impress NFL scouts. By most accounts, he looked very good, with Gil Brandt suggesting he was "magnificent," passing the ball in the pocket.

Of course, Young isn't likely the only option for the Seahawks. Tyler Thigpen is one significant name the team could be looking at to replace Flynn as Wilson's backup. Thigpen also makes sense as a similar player to Flynn. Free agent quarterback Matt Leinart could be an option to fill the void, as well.

Either way, whoever is brought in will only see the field if Wilson is injured. In his rookie season, Wilson threw for 3,118 yards with 26 touchdowns and 10 interceptions, with a 64.1 completion percentage. He also rushed for 489 yards with four touchdowns off of 94 carries.

Update: And just like that, Seattle’s interest in Young has passed, according to Mortensen.
