Robert Griffin III, 2012's offensive rookie of the year who was felled by a knee injury in the NFL playoffs, has been throwing since April and seems to be on pace to start the 2013 season opener when the Redskins host the Eagles on Monday Night Football, according to USA Today's Jim Corbett, who quoted the quarterback's father.

RG3 tore both his LCL and ACL late in the game during their wild-card loss at home to the Seattle Seahawks. He had surgery to repair his knee on Jan. 9.

“Robert is doing extremely well as far as the timetable,” Robert Griffin II sald. “He’s been doing a lot over time, he never stops.

“He was throwing some prior to the draft. Everything seems to be on cue. Everybody in the organization is targeting that season opener.”

RG3’s father went on to say that his son is ahead in his rehabilitation of where he was when he tore his ACL while playing at Baylor four years ago.

The Redskins head coach, Mike Shanahan, said his quarterback is ahead of schedule but he doesn't want RG3 coming back too quickly and re-injuring himself.

“What you don’t want is to do something too quick,” Shanahan said. “The muscles around the ligaments feel very good. But you don’t want to do something to set it back.

”One thing we’re getting Robert to do -- and the doctors are telling him: ‘You can only do so much at this point in the rehab program.’

“We’re just trying not to push him too hard.”

RG3 completed 258 of 393 passes in 2012 for 3,200 yards, 20 touchdowns and five interceptions for a 102.4 passer rating. He also ran for 815 yards and seven additional touchdowns. He led the Redskins to the playoffs as the NFC East champions, making their first postseason appearance since 2007.
