Aaron Hernandez is due back in court on Wednesday for a probable cause hearing. That hearing may not happen, according to Albert Breer of the NFL Network, who reports that the district attorney’s office is expected to file a continuance that would allow the grand jury to continue its investigation.

A court date for the former Patriots tight end scheduled for Wednesday is unlikely to happen.
Hernandez was arrested last month and charged with the first-degree murder of Odin Lloyd. Wednesday’s probable cause hearing is considered a “matter of procedure” by experts cited in Breer’s article. However, it would give the defense team the chance to question witnesses on the stand. The grand jury investigation is expected to produce an indictment of Hernandez, and the case will then move to Massachusetts Superior Court.
The grand jury is scheduled to wrap up at the end of September. If it reaches an indictment, a trial schedule would then be determined.
Hernandez pleaded not guilty to the murder charge as well as five related weapons charges at a arraignment in June. Lloyd’s body was discovered in an industrial park near Hernandez’s home in North Attleboro, Ma. on June 17.
Two other men have been charged in connection with the case, Ernest Wallace and Carlos Ortiz. Wallace is charged with accessory to murder, and Ortiz faces a gun-related charge. A hearing for Wallace was scheduled for Monday, July 22, but was moved to Friday, July 26.
