NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said Thursday that the league will not take action against Philadelphia Eagles wideout Riley Cooper after a video surfaced earlier this week of the fourth-year player using racially insensitive language.

Goodell explained his reasoning on ESPN’s Mike & Mike in the Morning (via NFL.com’s Marc Sessler), saying that “[Riley]‘s accepted responsibility for it, he has spoken to his team, he has been disciplined by the club, and will go through some training with the club to understand.”

Goodell went on to explain that since the Eagles had already taken disciplinary actions against Cooper, the league would not pursue separate action, as directed under the collective bargaining agreement.
The Eagles fined Cooper an undisclosed amount for the incident, which came to light after a video began making the rounds online earlier this week. The video shows a plaid shirt, jean short-clad Cooper using the n-word during a Kenny Chesney concert in Philadelphia this summer.
Cooper, who the Eagles hope can help fill the void left by Jeremy Maclin’s season-ending ACL injury, has since apologized to fans and teammates for the remarks.
