Buccaneers roster cuts: Tampa Bay releases TE Zach Miller, 6 other players

Tampa Bay released seven players on Tuesday to get to the 75-man roster limit.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers took their roster down to the 75-player limit by releasing seven players on Tuesday afternoon. Zach Miller is likely going to be the name most recognize, but he wasn't the most surprising player that the Bucs waived in this round of cuts.

The Bucs waived/injured linebacker Jacob Cutrera, released Miller and then waived wide receivers Terriun Crump and Chris Denton, tight end Mike Shanahan, guard Adam Smith and cornerback Branden Smith. Cutrera will remain property of the Bucs on their injured reserve list if he clears waivers.

The move that caused the most ruckus at Bucs Nation, SB Nation’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers blog, was the removal of Smith -- the cornerback, not the offensive lineman -- from the roster.

The only real surprise on the list was Branden Smith, who had some hype going for him coming into training camp. He has failed to make a name for himself, however. Jacob Cutrera I would have expected to stick a little longer, but he's been exclusively a special teamer in his career and hasn't stood out this preseason. None of the other names were remotely surprising.

Both Smiths, Denton and Shanahan were all undrafted free agents, though the latter originally signed with the New York Jets before being released and subsequently picked up by the Buccaneers on Monday. Miller played three seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars, starting five games during the 2010 season.
