Seahawks will release Antoine Winfield, according to report
The veteran cornerback was a victim of a deep, young secondary.
Winfield’s release seems just as much an indication of Seattle’s depth in its secondary as anything else. Winfield signed a one-year deal with the Seahawks in the offseason that guaranteed him $1 million, according to Spotrac. The upcoming season, if he catches on with another team, will be the 36-year-old’s 15th in the league.
Winfield made three straight Pro Bowls with the Minnesota Vikings from 2008-10, and he was named All-Pro in 2008 for the only time in his career. The Vikings released him in March to clear salary cap space, which is when the Seahawks stepped in and signed him to a one-year deal.
In his 14-season career, Winfield has 1,054 tackles, 27 interceptions and 14 forced fumbles.
