The Arizona Cardinals trimmed their roster closer to 53 men Saturday, and among the cuts was defensive tackle David Carter, according to the NFL's cut tracker.
NFL roster cuts 2013: Cardinals release 13 players, including DT David Carter
The third-year nose tackle was the most notable name from Arizona’s Saturday cuts.
Carter was a sixth-round draft choice for the Cardinals in 2011 out of UCLA, and he played in all 16 games as a rookie and contributed in the middle of the line. But his production went down last season, and he had a poor preseason in four games before Saturday’s release.
At Revenge of the Birds, Jess Root explained head coach Bruce Arians’ thinking.
He was also a late round draft pick from the previous coaching staff. He just did not make enough plays.
In the end, as he was a project pick when drafted, the team got more than they bargained for his rookie year and then less than they expected thereafter.
The rest of the Cardinals’ cuts from Saturday are listed below. The deadline for teams to narrow their rosters to 53 men is Saturday at 6 p.m. ET.
WR Dan Buckner
