NFL roster cuts 2013: Lions drop Chris Greenwood, 20 others

The Lions sorted out their secondary Saturday by releasing Chris Greenwood and Ron Bartell, among others.

The Detroit Lions officially released 21 players on Saturday in order to reach the league's 53-man roster requirement before a 6 p.m. ET deadline. Cornerback Chris Greenwood, a fifth-round pick by the team in 2012, was among those dropped from the roster.

After missing all of last season and a substantial portion of training camp due to injuries, Greenwood simply couldn’t make the necessary impression on Detroit’s coaching staff in his brief career. Clearly the organization liked him -- enough to use a draft selection on him over a year ago -- but things never quite panned out.

In addition to the cuts, Detroit also placed tight end Michael Williams on injured reserve, officially ending his season. The rookie broke his hand in the preseason game against New England over a week ago.
