Texans roster cuts 2013: Deji Karim, 19 others released

The Texans released 20 players on Saturday, though it didn’t feature many surprises.

The Houston Texans announced the release of 20 players on Saturday, including veteran running back Deji Karim, to cut their roster down to 53 players before the NFL's 6 p.m. deadline.

Along with Karim, the Texans also released DE Keith Browner, TE Jake Byrne, CB Roc Carmichael, FB Tyler Clutts, LB Cameron Collins, WR Andy Cruse, OL Tyler Horn, DE Delano Johnson, RB Dennis Johnson, S Orihian Johnson, NT Chris Jones, OL Alex Kupper, CB Elbert Mack, OT Nate Menkin, LB Mike Mohamed, WR Uzoma Nwachukwu, S Jawanza Starling.

The team also reached injury settlements with DT David Hunter and WR Mike Smith, who had been previously placed on the team’s injured reserve list. Replacing them on the injured reserve were WR Alan Bonner, OT Brennan Williams and OLB Trevardo Williams.

Following the move and the activation of safety Ed Reed from the physically unable to perform list, the Texans roster now stands at 53 players. That means the team will have to release one more player after Week 1, as defensive lineman Antonio Smith will be set to return from a one-game suspension.
