NFL roster moves: Broncos dump Jacob Hester, Jets claim Alex Green

One day after roster cuts, teams are starting to make waiver claims and build their practice squads. Here are some of the more relevant moves from Sunday morning.

NFL roster cuts were due Saturday evening, but teams continue making moves in anticipation of the season. Waiver claims are coming through and teams are now deciding on practice squad rosters. A few more players even got released as teams finalize rosters. Let’s look at the more notable moves made on Sunday morning:

Broncos release Hester

The Denver Broncos released running back Jacob Hester. Hester signed last November and appeared in three games down the stretch, recording 81 yards on 17 carries. He spent the previous four seasons with the San Diego Chargers. The Broncos will carry four running backs on the depth chart.

Chiefs drop Diles

The Kansas City Chiefs released linebacker Zac Diles. Diles has bounced around the league since spending his first four years with the Houston Texans. He played for the Tennessee Titans last year before breaking his leg. Diles was brought in to compete with Akeem Jordan for the starting inside linebacker job, but Jordan has since won that battle.

Jets claim Green

The New York Jets claimed running back Alex Green off waivers from the Green Bay Packers. A third-round pick in 2011, Green tore his ACL as a rookie and has struggled to find playing time since. He will have to fight for snaps with Bilal Powell and Kahlil Bell. The Jets are likely bringing him on as insurance with Mike Goodson suspended through Week 4.

Jags add Harbor

The Jacksonville Jaguars claimed tight end Clay Harbor off waivers from the Philadelphia Eagles. He is the second tight end the Jaguars claimed this week after adding D.J. Williams. The Eagles were trying Harbor out at wide receiver before releasing him this weekend. A talented athlete who struggles with hands and route running, we'll see if he catches on elsewhere.
