Aaron Hernandez associate indicted for accessory to murder
Carlos Ortiz, the third suspect in the murder of Odin Lloyd, has been indicted on a single count of Accessory to the Murder-After the Fact.
Ortiz, who has admitted to being with Hernandez and third suspect Ernest Wallace on the night that Lloyd was shot and killed, was indicted by a grand jury on a single count of Accessory to the Murder-After the Fact.
According to prosecutors, the three men picked up Lloyd on the night of June 17 and drove him to an industrial park in North Attleborough, Mass., where he was shot to death.
Ortiz has stated that he accompanied Hernandez and Wallace to the park, but remained in the car as Lloyd was pulled out and killed.
Hernandez, a former star tight end with the New England Patriots, has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder and weapons charges and is being held without bail at a county jail.
The indictment means Ortiz’s criminal case will start anew in Fall River Superior Court. An arraignment date has yet to be scheduled.
Ortiz will not appear in a district court pretrail hearing that had been scheduled for Friday morning.
