Aaron Hernandez’s fiancée, cousin indicted by grand jury

Additional charges were levied by a grand jury Friday in connection with the Aaron Hernandez case.

A Bristol County grand jury indicted Shayana Jenkins, Aaron Hernandez's fiancée, as well as his cousin Tanya Singleton on Friday, per a release from the district attorney's office. Jenkins was indicted on one count of perjury, and Singleton was indicted on a charge of conspiracy to commit accessory after the fact. Singleton also was indicted on a criminal contempt charge in August.

These indictments are connected to the ongoing investigation into the June homicide of Odin Lloyd, for which Hernandez has been charged with first-degree murder. At his arraignment in early September, Hernandez pleaded not guilty to all of his charges.

Authorities were investigating Jenkins’ potential role in the case back in August, believing at the time that she may have intentionally misled investigators and also might be aware of what happened to the gun involved in Lloyd’s death.

Carlos Ortiz, another suspect in the Lloyd case, also was indicted Friday.
