Aaron Hernandez files for postponement of Florida lawsuit

Lawyers for Aaron Hernandez are attempting to postpone the proceedings of a lawsuit against Hernandez.

Aaron Hernandez's lawyers filed a postponement request on Tuesday in an attempt to delay a lawsuit filed against the former Patriots tight end until after the first-degree murder charge he's facing is settled, according to a report from The Associated Press.

Hernandez is being sued by Alexander Bradley, who claims Hernandez shot him in the face following an argument in February. Bradley is seeking a minimum of $100,000 in damages. Bradley initially filed a lawsuit against Hernandez on June 13, but the lawsuit was dismissed because of an error in paperwork. The suit was then refiled on June 20.

According to documents, the alleged shooting resulted in Bradley losing his right eye and being forced to undergo multiple facial reconstruction surgeries.

In the postponement request, Hernandez’s lawyers said it would be legally unfair to Hernandez to allow the lawsuit to proceed while he is defending himself against the charges filed in the death of Odin Loyd. The 23-year-old Hernandez was charged with first-degree murder and is also facing five weapons charges related to the case.
