Philadelphia Eagles long snapper Jon Dorenbos suffered a broken wrist in the team’s 27-22 loss against Washington and will miss the rest of the season. He had surgery on his wrist and the team placed him on injured reserve, Eagles coach Doug Pederson announced Monday.
Eagles long snapper Jon Dorenbos out for the season with a broken wrist
Who would have thought that the loss of a starting long snapper would have a huge impact in a game?

Before he suffered the injury, Dorenbos tied an Eagles franchise record on Sunday by playing in his 162nd consecutive game, tying longtime receiver Harold Carmichael.
The Eagles signed long snapper Rick Lovato as a replacement, which is smart move considering what happened after Dorenbos went down with the injury. Eagles tight end Brent Celek took over long-snapping duties and that did not go too well for Philadelphia, which found out that losing your starting long snapper can be a disaster.
Late in the the third quarter, Celek made a bad snap on a 50-yard field goal that would have put the Eagles ahead 16-14. Holder Donnie Jones tried to run the ball but was tackled for a 6-yard loss, and Washington started its drive on its own 46-yard line.
When Celek went down with a stinger, Philadelphia decided to use tight end Trey Burton as its long snapper. On Burton’s first attempt, he launched a high snap, Jones caught it, and kicker Caleb Sturgis converted on a 41-yard field goal to give the Eagles a 22-21 lead late in the fourth quarter.
At 5-8, the Eagles are at the bottom of the NFC East and don’t have much hope to make the playoffs. They will soon turn their attention to the offseason. Dorenbos’ season is already over, but hopefully his wrist injury doesn’t prevent him from performing magic tricks.
