Rangers Vs. Islanders: Prospal Puts Rangers Up 1-0 In First Period

In the final Battle of New York, the New York Rangers have taken an early 1-0 lead in the first period against the Islanders. The Rangers goal came from Vinny Prospal who scored with 5:35 left in the first period. The assist came from Marion Gaborik.

The storyline that will ultimately follow this game is the boarding penalty that Rangers’ forward Marion Gaborik took on Franz Nielsen. Gaborik took a bad boarding penalty on Franz Nielsen in which Nielsen was playing the puck along the boards and Gaborik leveled him with his shoulder. Gaborik received a double minor, two minutes for boarding and two minutes for roughing in the scrum that ensued afterwards. The hit is the type of hit that the league is looking to get rid of and the league should take a look at it again.
