Rangers Vs. Islanders: Prospal Puts Rangers Up 1-0 In First Period
The storyline that will ultimately follow this game is the boarding penalty that Rangers’ forward Marion Gaborik took on Franz Nielsen. Gaborik took a bad boarding penalty on Franz Nielsen in which Nielsen was playing the puck along the boards and Gaborik leveled him with his shoulder. Gaborik received a double minor, two minutes for boarding and two minutes for roughing in the scrum that ensued afterwards. The hit is the type of hit that the league is looking to get rid of and the league should take a look at it again.
The Islanders outshot the Rangers 11-9 in the first period and Henrik Lundqvist has made all 11 shots in the first to keep the Rangers lead thus far. Islanders goaltender Al Montoya has made eight saves on the nine shots faced.
