Philadelphia Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren said on Monday morning that Chris Pronger was "okay" after leaving Game 1 just a few minutes before the final horn. With that, we all expected Pronger to be in the lineup for Game 2 here at Wells Fargo Center.
Bruins Vs. Flyers, Game 2: Chris Pronger Out For Philadelphia
Quite the contrary. We’ve learned that Pronger is out with an undisclosed injury, unrelated to the hand injury that kept him out down the stretch of the regular season and in the first five games of the Flyers’ series vs. Buffalo. Holmgren apparently misled the media this morning in saying that he was fine. Not cool, man.
We don't know the injury Pronger suffered in Game 1, but there is speculation that it's a lower-body injury. Peter Laviolette will dress Danny Syvret, who dressed for all seven games in the Buffalo series, in Pronger's place. Syvret's a capable sixth defenseman with some offensive prowess and the ability to play on the power play a bit, but he's obviously not Chris Pronger.
