In his 2013-14 debut, Steve Downie was a key cog in Colorado's dismantling of the Anaheim Ducks as he recorded a Gordie Howe hat trick with a goal, assist and fight in the Avalanche's 6-1 win.
Steve Downie hit injures Roman Josi
Steve Downie’s controversial hit injured Nashville defenseman Roman Josi. Will it result in a suspension?

On Friday, he was at the center of attention for another controversial hit.
Midway through the second period, Downie rocked Roman Josi in the corner on a hit that knocked the Nashville defenseman out of the game. Downie received a two-minute for charging on the play, but because of the Predators' response, which resulted in them getting an extra penalty, the Avalanche ended up coming out of the situation with a power play.
Here’s the hit, which is sure to be reviewed by the NHL for possible supplemental discipline.
A couple of questions and things to keep in mind:
1) Questions the NHL will be asking: Was this a hit to the head, and did Downie leave his feet prior to making contact?
2) Josi was injured on the play, which always seems to play a role not only in whether or not discipline will be handed out, but how severe said discipline will be.
3) Downie has a pretty lengthy suspension history in the NHL, and that also plays a role in the league’s decision making.
The Avalanche don’t play again until Tuesday, so the league will have until then to make a decision.
