Coyotes vs. Avalanche: Boyd Gordon scores a flukey goal

The second period hasn’t gone well for Colorado.

If you haven't followed the Colorado Avalanche all season and are wondering what kind of year they've had, just go back and watch their second period against the Phoenix Coyotes on Saturday night. It sums it up nicely.

Mike Smith took advantage when the Avalanche went off for a wholesale line change, leaving his crease to send a dump-in back up the ice. Just like that, the 'Yotes had a 3-on-0 and a 2-0 lead. Oh, and Erik Johnson injured himself while trying to desperately defend the play.

The Avs were still trying to process all of this when they let in perhaps the unluckiest goal of the season. Boyd Gordon got the puck off a turnover and shot the puck from a terrible angle. I mean, that puck had no business going in.

It did, deflecting off of Semyon Varlamov's stick and into the net. The 2013 Colorado Avalanche, everyone.
