Reports surfaced on Saturday stating that Avram Grant would be sacked after Arsenal's visit to West Ham United, with Martin O'Neill set to step in until the end of the season. Yet O'Neill's imminent arrival at Upton Park is now in doubt, as he is reportedly upset with the way that the news was handled. While O'Neill is eager to return to football, he just might not want to come to a club who leaks reports about their next manager while their current one is still standing on the touchline.
Martin O’Neill Disappointed With West Ham Reports Declaring Him Successor To Avram Grant
Which, when you think about it, is quite rich for Mr. O'Neill. This is a man who walked out on Aston Villa just five days before the start of the season, leaving the club to scramble for a caretaker and then a replacement. Yet he's concerned with the way that others handle departure procedures?
There’s really no doubt that O’Neill will become the next West Ham manager. He’ll want to prove that he can keep the club out of the relegation zone (and if it comes at the expense of his former club, all the better, I’m sure). But he’s going to want a bit of coddling first, especially since Mssrs Gold and Sullivan are not exactly known for their excellent treatment of their managers.
