“We are pleased to host Manchester United again for our marquee summer event,” MLS Commissioner Don Garber said in a league release. “Our All-Star Game has become a true celebration of soccer, and our best players look forward to the challenge of competing against one of the top clubs in the world.”
This will be the 16th year of the MLS All-Star Game and the eighth time they will play an international club. Among their opponents in past years have been Everton, Chelsea and Chivas de Guadalajara. The All-Stars have gone 5-1-1 in those matches, but lost 5-2 in last year’s match.
United features such stars as Dimitar Berbatov, Wayne Rooney, Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez, Nani and Ryan Giggs. They are also managed by the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson.
