Premier League giants Manchester United had already been confirmed as the opponents for the MLS All-Star game in New York, but a statement on their website has now officially announced four other friendly matches in a three-week tour of the United States. Their opponents will be MLS sides New England Revolution, Seattle Sounders, and Chicago Fire, with a friendly against Barcelona on July 30th capping everything off in rather grand fashion.
Manchester United Confirm North American Tour With Five U.S. Dates
The full fixture list for the tour is as follows:
- at New England Revolution, July 13th, Gillette Stadium.
- at Seattle Sounders, July 20th, Qwest Field.
- at Chicago Fire, July 23rd, Soldier Field.
- at MLS All-Stars, July 27th, Red Bull Arena (New York)
- vs. Barcelona, July 30th, FedEx Field (Washington D.C.)
The matches against the Revolution, Fire and Barcelona will all be part of the World Football Challenge, an eight-team tournament that will be played over the summer. Four more teams are to be added to the tournament.
This will mark the second straight year that United have gone to the USA for preseason training, having also featured in the 2010 MLS All-Star game, ultimately winning by a score of 5-2. Even playing warmup games, Manchester United are a huge draw, and we should expect sellouts wherever they go. The game against Barcelona is described on their club site as ‘mouth-watering’, and with less than two weeks between that match and the beginning of the Premier League season, both sides should be ready to put on a show for the lucky denizens of the capital.
