Real Madrid's league title hopes might of ended, but seven goals in two matches by Cristiano Ronaldo has vaulted him in to the lead for the Pichichi Trophy and within reach of a record. Ronaldo has 36 goals in league play this season and sits just three away from breaking the single-season Spanish top flight record of 38 goals, set by Athletic Bilbao striker Telmo Zarra in 1950/51 and equalled by Madrid's Hugo Sanchez in 1989/90. Ronaldo has already set Madrid's single-season scoring record with 49 goals, breaking Ferenc Puskas' mark of 47 set in 1959/60.
