After firing Avram Grant, West Ham United is in search of their next manager, but it won't be Steve McClaren. West Ham have already clinched relegation despite there being a week left in the season so the Hammers will be down in the Championship next season. McClaren, the former England manager who was fired earlier this season at Wolfsburg was linked to the job at Upton Park, but before he even had the chance to be contacted he has said he is not interested in the post.
Steve McClaren Removes Himself From Consideration For West Ham Job
McClaren said in a statement to Skay Sports News: “It is very flattering to be linked with a club of West Ham’s size and historic stature, also one that has tremendous fans. However, at this moment in time I do not wish to be considered for the position. But I wish everybody at West Ham all the very best for the future.”
With McClaren no longer a candidate, West Ham may turn to Chris Hughton. The former West Ham player had been doing a fine job with Newcastle before being strangely sacked earlier this season. Whoever the next Hammers manager is, co-owner David Gold said the club hopes to hire a manager soon.
“The sooner the better, that is important. There is lots of work to do, an enormous amount of work. But at the same time we mustn’t be rushed.”
West Ham will be one of the biggest clubs in the Championship next season, but with so many players to be sold off this summer, it is unclear what kind of team they will have next season. As big as they may be for the Championship, they are hardly a lock to gain promotion right away.
