DC United Vs. Seattle Sounders: Hosts Earn 2-1 Victory

The Seattle Sounders game into DC having won two straight and outscoring their opponents 4-0 in the process. Their hosts, DC United, had lost two in a row, conceding eight times in those two matches. Things didn't look terribly promising for Ben Olsen's side. The first fifteen minutes lived up to that promise, with Seattle dominating possession and looking threatening, but their dominance waned after that and the hosts were able to hit them on the counterattack. Josh Wolff opened the scoring with half an hour gone, and Seattle found themselves behind at half time.

Things didn't get much better for the visitors imemdiately after the break, and they went further behind to a goal that was almost a carbon copy of Wolff's strike. This time it was Wolff who broke away before squaring to Charlies Davies to tap in. Seattle went on the attack from then on, replying by earning a penalty, which Brad Evans converted. They carved out a number of chances in the late stages, Bill Hamid in the DC net being the only reason that the game stayed titled in the hosts favour, but when the game looked to be heading towards a tense climax the Seattle threat died down and the game petered out.

It's a great result for DC, who had been looking demoralised after a pair of thrashings handed out by the New York Red Bulls and the Houston Dynamo, but it's shockingly poor for Seattle who could have joined the LA Galaxy at the top of the Western Conference with a win.
