A thrilling match between Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United at White Hart Lane was overshadowed by Hull City’s 3-1 victory against Liverpool.

Ian WaltonChelsea took all three points from their clash against Southampton despite being stunned by a goal from the Saints in the opening minute.
Jay Rodriguez took advantage of Michael Essien’s mistake to score just thirteen seconds after kick-off, but Gary Cahill, John Terry and Demba Ba took full advantage of Southampton’s weakness from set-pieces to hit back for the Blues.

Michael ReganNeither Manchester United nor Tottenham Hotspur are having the happiest of seasons, so it’s no surprise that when the two went head to head at White Hart Lane they combined for a result that neither were happy with. Spurs, perhaps, will be the more disappointed that the match finished 2-2 after twice having gone ahead, but there were plenty of chances for the visitors to claim the points as well. They simply didn’t.
United looked like the better side after Rooney’s strike, but Spurs weren’t going away quietly, and they restored their lead just after the break with a breathtaking strike from Sandro. Given space to run at goal, the Brazilian motored forward, shifted the ball to his right foot and sent a 30-yard thunderbolt straight into the top corner. De Gea didn’t even move.

Tony MarshallBut Newcastle had more in the tank, and they reestablished their lead almost immediately thanks to a brilliant hit from Sissoko. The former Toulouse man seized upon a Remy header 25 yards from goal, took one touch, and sent a viciously swerving strike past Myhill and into the top corner. It was a fabulous goal, and rather took the wind out of the visitors’ sails.
The rest of the match belonged to Newcastle. The hosts were twice looking for a penalty after Jones looked to have handled in the box (he didn’t the first time; he definitely did for the second), and Debuchy should have done better after Brunt coughed up possession in his own half, the fullback ultimately shooting straight at Myhill. Fortunately, they didn’t need to score again -- 2-1 would be enough for another crucial win.

Michael ReganWell that was anti-climactic. Aston Villa and Sunderland ground out a 0-0 draw at Villa Park that looked as though it had the potential to break into a good game all the way up until the full time whistle without ever actually doing so. The visitors edged the chances and perhaps the general play, but thanks to an awful miss by Emanuele Giaccherini, they never managed to find a way past Brad Guzan.
The opening stages of the match were quiet, but eventually the visitors grew in confidence and started to push forward. As Sunderland attacked, that gave Villa space to reply, and the end of the first half was marked by a handful of penalty shouts. The Black Cats wanted one after Ciaran Clark handled John O’Shea’s header from point blank range, while the hosts were claiming spot kicks for a Phil Bardsley handball and for what looked like a shove on Gabriel Agbonlahor just before the interval. None of them were given.

Ian WaltonFulham made a game of it in the first half but fell apart in the second half as West Ham pulled away thanks to a three goal explosion. Mohamed Diamé got things going just three minutes into the second half and each of the two Coles scored late goals to secure the result.
After a multitude of wasted chances in the first half, West Ham needed less than three minutes to take the lead in the second half.

Matthew LewisTony Pulis’ debut as Crystal Palace manager got off to a poor start as his side lost to potential relegation rivals Norwich City, with Gary Hooper bagging the game’s only goal to keep the Eagles at the bottom of the table.
Redmond was looking typically dangerous for the hosts and had a huge hand in the opening goal. A fine run down the right allowed him to put a good ball into the area, and Wes Hoolahan put it back into the path of Gary Hooper for a simple finish as the former Celtic man put the hosts in front.
