Manchester City bolster their defense with the signing of Martin Demichelis

With the central defense looking a bit thin with Vincent Kompany’s injury, Manuel Pellegrini has bought a familiar face to help provide some depth.

Weeks after joining Atletico Madrid on a free transfer from Malaga, defender Martin Demichelis is on the move again after Atletico agreed to sell the player to Manchester City.

It’s a solid addition for City who need some defensive depth and head coach Manuel Pellegrini is very familiar with what the 32-year-old can bring the table after coaching him at Malaga and River Plate. The deal is reportedly worth £4.2 million, not a bad turnaround for Atletico considering they didn’t pay anything to sign the Argentine back in July.

It’s believed that Diego Simeone was content to make the move with his club on the verge of signingToby Alderweireld from Ajax.

With Vincent Kompany out for a month with a groin injury, there’s a good chance that Demichelis could feature in the starting lineup for city after the international break.
