Kei Kamara is on the move again, this time joining English Championship side Middlesbrough on a permanent transfer, the player confirmed. The transfer fee has not been disclosed .
Kei Kamara moves to Middlesbrough from Sporting KC
Kamara was Sporting KC’s second-leading scorer, despite missing a chunk of the season while on loan to Norwich City.
The Sporting Kansas City forward was second on the team with seven goals, despite missing the early part of the season while on loan at Norwich City. Kamara has been one of the most consistent offensive players in MLS over the past four seasons, bagging 37 goals and registering 20 assists. Kamara scored one goal in 11 league appearances with Norwich City.
While this might seem like an odd move, it likely represents a chance for Kamara, 29, to get a decent payday while he’s still on the right side of 30. Middlesbrough has been a mid-table team for each of their previous four seasons in the Championship and are currently sitting in 16th place in the 24-team league through five matches.
Despite their recent struggles, Boro was one of the founding members of the Premier League in 1992 and spent only one year in the Championship before their most recent relegation. They also advanced to the UEFA Cup final in 2006.
Kamara should have plenty of opportunities there, as well. Boro have scored just six goals through five games and no player has more than one goal.
