Schalke loan Tranquillo Barnetta to Eintracht Frankfurt

The Swiss international winger has become surplus to requirements for the Champions League club.

Eintracht Frankfurt have taken Schalke winger Tranquillo Barnetta on loan for the remainder of the Bundesliga season. The Swiss international's move was announced by Eintracht on Monday morning. They did not indicate whether or not they will have an option to buy Barnetta at the end of the loan.

Schalke added Christian Clemens and Leon Goretzka over the summer. Neither is as much of a pure winger as Barnetta, but both have played wide. The same goes for highly touted youngster Max Meyer, who will probably see quite a bit of time in wide areas as Julian Draxler becomes Schalke’s primary No. 10. Jefferson Farfan is first choice on the right flank, while Chinedu Obasi is still on the books at Schalke as well.

Eintracht have struggled to start the season, taking just three points from their first four games. Their starting wingers Takashi Inui and Stefan Aigner were both solid last season, but neither has their first team spot locked down.
