Alvaro Vazquez signs for Swansea on loan with option to buy

Getafe have decided to move on from Alvaro Vazquez, sending him to Swansea on loan with a view towards a permanent deal.

Alvaro Vazquez has failed to fulfill his promise thus far, but Michael Laudrup is willing to take a chance on the 22-year-old Spanish striker and former wonderkid. Swansea City have announced that they have taken Vazquez on loan from Getafe with an option to make his transfer permanent at the end of the loan spell.

Vazquez was spectacular in the 2011 Under-20 World Cup and has been solid for the Spanish Under-21 national team, but has yet to turn those performances into great seasons in senior football. He scored just 10 goals in his 60 La Liga appearances for Espanyol before he was sold to Getafe. In one season there, he netted just four goals.

This is a low-risk move for Swansea and one that could potentially pay off big. If Vazquez simply isn’t good enough, Swansea don’t lose much money, but if he just needs a different coach, environment and set of teammates to turn his fortunes around and finally become a solid top flight striker, Swansea will have found an absolute bargain.
