Manchester United signs Marouane Fellaini from Everton

Marouane Fellaini is heading to Manchester United after the Red Devils and Everton agreed to a deal just before the transfer window closed.

Manchester United left it to the very last minute, but they have secured the services of Marouane Fellaini, Everton has confirmed. Various reports have pegged the transfer fee at £27 million.

The long transfer saga over the Belgium international looked like it would end in disappointment for the Red Devils, but nearly an hour after the window closed, Everton announced that the two sides had done the deal just in time.

Manchester United were dealt a blow earlier on Monday when their pursuit of Ander Herrera came up short and with the Fellaini deal looking unlikely, it looked set to be a disastrous window the Red Devils. But they have gotten Fellaini now, giving them at least one player to improve a midfield that so desperately needs an upgrade.

Whether signing Fellaini eases the pressure on David Moyes remains to be seen. United's new manager has been under fire for failing to bring in what the supporters deemed necessary signings despite being linked to so many players. He didn't get everyone he wanted, or near it for that matter, but he did get arguably his top target.

Fellaini had been linked to United all summer, but Everton were unwilling to sell. There was a release clause on Fellaini that the Red Devils refused to meet and eventually, it expired. United kept chasing Fellaini even after, though, and with just hours to go before the deadline, Fellaini handed in a transfer request. Whether that was the impetus for Everton to sell remains unclear, but United have got their man -- or at least one of their men -- to salvage their summer.
