St. Louis Cardinals second baseman and scrap dispensary Skip Schumaker took infield practice today, but he's still three to four weeks from returning to the lineup according to Matthew Leach of MLB.com. Schumaker injured his right biceps while swinging last week, and the Cardinals put him on the DL before Tuesday's game. It looks as though there's no chance for him to return one he's eligible in early May.
Skip Schumaker Out For 3-4 Weeks
In Schumaker's place, the Cardinals have Daniel Descalso as the starting second baseman. Descalso -- literally, "of the calso" -- is a 24-year-old utility player who has a career .276/.347/.406 minor league line, though that line is dragged down by his first two professional seasons in A-ball, in which he posted a sub-.700 OPS. In his first 30 at-bats in the majors in 2011, he's managed the hard-to-accomplish feat of posting a higher batting average than on-base percentage, with a .233/.226/.300 line.
