On Friday night, speedy Red Sox outfielder Carl Crawford was pulled from a game against the Brewers in the first inning after straining his hamstring running out an infield single. The severity of the injury was not immediately known, but courtesy of Evan Drellich, now we have a better idea:
Carl Crawford Injury: Red Sox OF Diagnosed With Grade 1 Hamstring Strain
Grade 1 (least severe) strain for Carl Crawford. Went for MRI. No decision on his status
So that’s a grade 1 hamstring strain, meaning the least severe kind of hamstring strain. That’s good news for the Red Sox, because it means nothing major is wrong.
But Crawford may still require a trip to the disabled list. You'll remember that Derek Jeter was placed on the DL by the Yankees with a grade 1 calf strain. The Red Sox haven't decided what they'll do with Crawford, and they won't make a decision until after he has his MRI, but just know that he isn't yet out of the woods.
For however long Crawford is out, be it a couple days or a couple weeks, there'll be a bigger opportunity for Darnell McDonald and Mike Cameron.
