On June 17th, Boston Red Sox outfielder/expensive new toy Carl Crawford left a game against the Milwaukee Brewers after straining his hamstring while beating out an infield single. He was diagnosed with a Grade 1 hamstring strain, which is the least severe type of strain. He was initially supposed to be out for two weeks, but it looks like he'll end up spending about a month on the disabled list. From Brian MacPherson of the Providence Journal:
Carl Crawford Injury: Red Sox Outfielder Should Be Back After All-Star Break
Francona: Crawford likely to go on a rehab assignment after All-Star break, return after the series on turf at Tropicana Field.
Bad news for any Rays fans who bought tickets to the Rays/Red Sox match-up, hoping to cheer or boo their former star.
The Rays series ends on July 17th, which would put Crawford in line to return for the Yankees series that starts on the very next day. Over the past two weeks, the Red Sox have used Darnell McDonald and Josh Reddick in left field.
