Andy Murray In, Novak Djokovic Out Of Aegon Championships At Queens Club

During Andy Murray’s French Open semifinal match against Rafael Nadal, the Brit was taking painkillers just to make it through. The world No. 4 suffered ligament damage in his right ankle during the semifinals.

However, after a two-hour practice on Monday, Murray confirmed that he will play in the Aegon Championships at the Queens Club.

“It’s definitely better than it was,” said Murray. “It was a bit sore when it happened but it should be OK.

An opening-round bye will allow Murray some extra rest. He does not begin play until Wednesday. He faces the winner of the match between Belgium’s Xavier Malisse and Germany’s Matthias Bachinger.

However, world No. 2 Novak Djokovic pulled out of the Aegon Championship with a injury to his kneecap. Djokovic was defeated by World No. 3 Roger Federer in the semifinals of the French Open, breaking his 43 match win-streak.

Federer also pulled out of his Wimbledon warm-up tournament, the Gerry Weber Open, with a groin injury. That means the only one of the top three players who will take part in a grass tournament this week is 2011 French Open Champion Rafael Nadal.
