The final month of the season is here and we’ve got a lot of big storylines to keep track of. Jimmy Garoppolo made his first start for the 49ers, and while it wasn’t perfect, it was enough to beat the Bears.

The Jets topped the free-falling Chiefs and the game was WEIRD AS HELL. We could hardly keep track of all the absurd things that happened — but we still tried.

In the late afternoon, Josh Gordon made his long-awaited return, but the Browns fell to 0-12 with a loss to the Chargers.

For the Giants, Geno Smith made the start against the Raiders now that Eli Manning is benched. Smith was fine, but he couldn’t fix the struggling offense. The Giants lost, 24-17.

With the calendar turning to December, the NFL regular season hits its stretch run. With only five weeks left, the playoff races are wide open at the moment and nearly every game take on a sense of urgency — save for those teams already out of it and playing for draft position at this point.

Week 13 has only one clinching scenario, but it’s notable for being the first of the season. The Eagles could’ve wrapped up the NFC East title with a Washington win over Dallas on Thursday, but the Cowboys blew them out. Instead, the Eagles can clinch the division themselves with a win over the Seahawks on Sunday night. Carson Wentz will try to boost his MVP resume against Seattle’s injury-depleted defense.

But first, there are plenty of important matchups in the early afternoon window. The biggest one sees the 9-2 Vikings facing the 7-4 Falcons with both teams surging at the right time. Case Keenum keeps playing well for Minnesota, while Atlanta has re-discovered Julio Jones and is getting Devonta Freeman back from a concussion. The Falcons will get a real test against the Vikings’ vicious defense this week.

In AFC East action, the Bills seem to be back on track after the Nathan Peterman fiasco, but they face the Patriots for the first time this season. Buffalo will be challenged to keep its playoff hopes alive against Tom Brady and Co.

Elsewhere at 1 p.m. ET, the Lions and Ravens square off in a battle of 6-5 teams. Baltimore’s offense is pretty bad this year, but the defense is keeping it in the Wild Card conversation. The Lions are in danger of falling further behind in a loaded NFC race.

The late afternoon is headlined by an NFC South battle between the 8-3 Panthers and Saints with first place in the division on the line. New Orleans blasted Carolina in Week 3, 34-13, and its offense has discovered a new superstar in Alvin Kamara. The Panthers, winners of four in a row, will be looking to shut down that run game with their elite defense.

Last season, the Chargers were the only team to lose to the Browns. They’ll be looking for revenge in the late afternoon, and they’re also trying to keep pace in the AFC West. LA has shrugged off an 0-4 start to win five of its last seven and put some heat on the Chiefs in the division race.
