Under Armour All-America game recap
Team Highlight, which featured stars such as Robert Nkemdiche and Vernon Hargreaves, defeated Team Nitro, which included Laquon Treadwell, Carl Lawson and Reuben Foster, 16-3. Hargreaves and Foster won the MVP awards for their respective teams.
Overall, the game might have been the most unwatchable in the history of the sport.

There’s no way around it: the Under Armour All-America Game has not been entertaining. Thanks to good defensive line play and very average offensive line and quarterback play, the teams have combined for a single offensive touchdown, 2-of-22 on third down, and the punting yardage has doubled up the total yardage.
But a bright spot emerged in the fourth quarter, as Oklahoma running back recruit Keith Ford showed of some nifty moves during a kickoff return for team Nitro.

Leon McQuay Bud Elliott (SB Nation)Out of Seffner (Fla.) Armwood High School, McQuay is a great cover safety with cornerback range. At 6’2, he has excellent length and instincts. He is a consensus four-star recruit.
There was some scuttlebutt throughout the week regarding McQuay’s ability to enroll early. Michigan and Florida State had approved him for early enrollment. Vanderbilt followed, and the question remained regarding USC’s stance on the issue.

If you’re watching the Under Armour All-America Game, you probably saw a bad snap go over the head of Team Nitro’s quarterback and startle the cameraman -- wait, what?
That’s right, there’s a cameraman in the backfield lending some creative shots to the broadcast on ESPN. And Team Nitro is sure glad he was there, as the snap ricocheted off the cameraman back to the quarterback, like a wild pitch back to the catcher off a friendly backstop in baseball.

Ebenezer Ogundeko Bud Elliott (SB Nation)Ogundeko had named Florida as his leader at one point, but some insiders believe his offer from Florida was not legitimate. Clemson’s interest was legitimate, however, and Ogundeko jumped at the opportunity to play for the Tigers.
The commit to Clemson was a surprise, as many expected him to choose Syracuse.

Alabama’s Cooper Bateman won’t get the chance to play with Josh McNeil in college, as the former Alabama commitment was dropped by the Crimson Tide a few weeks back.
But the big tight end did get the chance to catch a pass from Bateman in the Under Armour All-America Game Friday. A touchdown pass, in fact. Bateman threw accurately and in rhythm, and McNeil held on to the pass for the score to put Team Highlight up 10-0 over Team Nitro.

The game was a battle of good defense and inept offense early on. The teams traded punts and failed to gain a first down, but on team Nitro’s second possession, it punted to team Highlight and Highlight fumbled, giving the ball back to team Nitro.
Clemson commitment Ben Boulware, a linebacker, and safety Leon McQuay, as of yet undecided on his commitment, both had excellent pass break-ups for team Highlight.

Kendell Beckwith Bud Elliott (SB Nation)LSU’s advantage is that it is the hometown school, and it has recruited the four-star Beckwith the longest. Relationships are very important in recruiting, and LSU recruits as well as any team in the country.
Beckwith is much better rushing the passer and playing the run than he is defending the pass. He looks like a player who could get quite big. Many recruiting experts wonder if Beckwith will need to move to defensive end. If he does, he should fit quite nicely with LSU’s defense, which has shown a willingness to play smaller defensive ends.
